We thank you for your interest in My Health and Me. The founder, Kobus Myburgh, was diagnosed as a Type 2 Diabetic in 2019. This site was originally called Diabetes and Me, but Kobus soon realized that he could manage so much more with this system than just diabetes.

When he was diagnosed, the doctor revealed that there were blood tests done in 2013 already that indicated that he was diabetic then already, but he was not informed of this. This means that Kobus walked around with undiagnosed diabetes for 6 whole years!

While Kobus is not angry about this oversight, he believes that he now has skin in the game, and he wanted to help him, and others like him, to manage their diabetes better. This oversight has caused harm to is body, that showed signs of the disease, which he attributed to getting older. He was, however, uninformed (and probably a little ignorant, too), and could’ve stopped the progression of diabetes a lot sooner if he “listened to his gut” sooner about something not being right. Diabetes and Me is a web-based app that allows you to track various aspects of your health via one convenient app. While it is centered around diabetes, we aim to be a holistic health management app that allows our members to have a one-stop location to manage everything related to their health, from blood sugar to water intake, from blood pressure to the practice of gratitude and meditation, from your food intake to measurement of stress and sleep.

A note about integration with smart devices and apps

At this time we do not have integration into Smart Watches and other health apps – these tools are very expensive to integrate, and your contribution will help bring it in sooner. All features will automatically be enabled for all plans as soon as they become available, without additional costs to you, while the price for new members may be raised in the future, your current rate will remain the same for all new features. Think of it as our thank you for supporting our small little business to get off the ground.

Data security

Here are some of the steps we take to ensure your data security. Please read through these, and contact us if you have any questions, and we will do our best to answer.

  • We do not require a real name, an address, or any detail about you that you are not willing to share. All we need is your email address to register you on the platform, and assign and link a personal code to your data.
  • We do not store your credit card details – all payments are managed through PayFast, which also power prominent stores such as takealot.com. We decided on one of the best electronic payment platforms in South Africa right now.
  • All your information is linked only to this personal code you receive upon registration. So – even in the unlikely event that our database is compromised, all that the perpetrators will get is some data attached to this personal code – and no way to link the medical data captured to you as a person.
  • The only link between your personal code and you is your email address, and that is stored in a different encrypted database.
